If you download from the MS site (there should be no problem. I have never had a problem since downloading mine either.although I use Firefox more often.perhaps your neighbour was just unfortunate although I would be very surprised to learn that a new windows update download would cause any problems.maybe coincidental?!? I down loaded ie8 some time ago and my laptop seems fine allthough i am no grappling for as much wood as poss and crossing everything!! (The download screen had no facility to cancel or abort the download.Įnd result? My PC is fine, luckily, but what is it about this download that is so dangerous? I have seen no warnings on the forum about this. I suddenly became very apprehensive about this download - to the point that I threw the wall socket switch to 'off' to kill the process. I am not a computer buff in fact I refer to my PC as "the machine". Whilst this was happening I recalled that my neighbour over the road did exactly the same about a week ago and ended up with a very sick laptop that needed € 130 to get fixed by one of these clever PC repair people in the area. It looks totally legit and I set about loading it. I have received an automatic update prompt to install the above.
